North Broadway, a major street that connects Lincoln Heights to the Downtown Los Angeles area, is packed with restaurants, theatres, shops, and a variety of other attractions. The Broadway Theatre district, which consists of around 12 theatres, runs along North Broadway and produces a variety of local and national plays, concerts, and other shows. There are also a number of Asian restaurants on North Broadway, as the street runs through Chinatown, including Yang Chow and Golden Dragon. Due to the decline of Broadway over the past decade, a current revival plan is working to renew the surrounding area. There are also a number of Metro Local lines that run along Broadway in order to serve residents along the street, with Line 45 serving residents directly in Lincoln Heights.

Huntington Park also operates its own COMBI transit bus service that brings residents around the Huntington Park area for only $0.50 per ride.

The Los Angeles Metro has two local bus lines and two rapid line services that stop in Maywood and offer transportation to Downtown Los Angeles and the surrounding areas. The city also offers Dial-a-Ride service for elderly and disabled citizens of Maywood for only $1.00 per ride. Being about eight miles from Downtown Los Angeles, the commute takes about 30 minutes with traffic by car and between 45 minutes to an hour by public transportation.

Maywood has two parks: Maywood and Riverfront. Maywood Park includes a baseball park, indoor basketball court, gym, pool, and facilities for classes to be held. Riverfront Park has a handball court, a basketball court, a soccer field, and access to the La River Bike Path, a 40 mile bike path that runs along the Los Angeles river. The city also offers a Police Activities League Mentoring Program for at-risk youth in the area. The program pairs youth with law enforcement agents and offers a variety of recreational and educational activities in order to help the youth stay off of the streets. Maywood is also known for its annual Street Fair, held every Memorial Day weekend, which includes a variety of attractions.

The Metro Red Line has a station in Hollywood and several bus services that go from Hollywood directly to Downtown Los Angeles, all of which take about 40 minutes to reach the city.

South Gate High School and South East High School scored a five and four, respectively, on the GreatSchools score ratings.
