For a large city, Clarksville doesn’t have that many restaurants, but a few of the restaurants are well known and receive excellent customer reviews. The Blackhorse Pub & Brewery is known for their excellent food and beer and actually brews some of their own beer. The Pub is also known for their excellent food and late night appetizers. Kohana Japanese Restaurant is another popular restaurant in the area and is known for their incredible tasting and fresh sushi.

Chattanooga is home to three off-leash dog parks and allows on-leash dogs in all of the cities 70 parks. In order to have access to the dog parks you have to obtain an annual pass and contact the animal center. The three dog parks are all fenced in areas. The Chattanooga Chew Chew Canine Park is a half acre park that is fenced in and is open to the public. Greenway Farm is a huge park that has all types of activities, including a large off-leash dog park. The dog park at Heritage Park is the newest park and is definitely the nicest. As of right now, there are six complexes that allow cats and small and large dogs.

In Nashville, the overwhelming majority of residents use vehicles to get around. Only 1.8% of residents use public transportation, and just 2.4% of them walk. For drivers, the city is located in the center of the crossroads of three interstates (40, 24, and 65). Insterstate 440 is the bypass route that connects them. There also a number of pikes that extend from the city, most of them connecting to a neighboring town. The average commute time here is 26 minutes, which is the same as the state and national averages.

Nashville has a large student community that has been recently estimated at a population of 48,000 in the city and 74,000 in the statistical metropolitan area. Because there are so many universities and colleges in the area, city earned the nickname “The Athens of the South.” There are around 35 oost-secondary schools in Nashville, the most well-known being Vanderbilt University. Middle Tennessee State University, which has the largest student enrollment in the state, is also just 30 miles away from Nashville.

If you live here you’ll immediately realize why so many tourists come to the Music City... there’s so much southern charm to be found at any time here. The CMA Music Festival is an annual event where country’s biggest acts perform in the city. The Tennessee State Fair is another yearly event that is popular in the area. As for regularly occurring events, the Tennessee Performing Arts Center is one of the best music venues in the country, and is home to the Nashville Opera. Also, the Belcourt Theatre is another great venue. No matter what you do here, make sure you begin or end it with dinner at one of the city’s excellent restaurants.

Many locals claim that Nashville has more quality restaurants than any other city in the south, and I don’t think they’re wrong. The city is known for its fried southern dishes, and restaurants such as Modell’s, Bolton’s Spicy Chicken & Fish, Arnold’s Country Kitchen, and East Side Fish serve the best comfort food in the area. I hope I haven’t scared off the vegetarians, because there are also dining options for them at the Woodlands Indian Vegetarian Cuisine and Calypso Cafe. There are also a variety of other cuisines; try the tacos at Mas Tacos, Por Favor, or the pasta at the Margot Cafe & Bar.

If you don’t want to take the buses provided by the Nashville MTA, you will have to drive. This is very common -- an overwhelming 96% of residents drive a vehicle to work every day. This is a high percentage considering how traffic can be on Interstate 24 to Nashville. Even though the two cities are only 20 miles apart, the drive can take up to 45 minutes when traffic is congested during rush hour.

Public Transportation

Public transit isn’t necessarily the most popular mode of commuting here -- only .3% of the population takes it to work every day -- but there are options. The Nashville Metropolitan Transit Authority provides both regular and express buses to service the area, which is an efficient way to save gas and vehicle expenses if you take it to work every day. Also, if you need to catch a flight, the Nashville Express Shuttle offers routes from La Vergne to the airport.

Brentwood offers hundreds of acres of open space to their residents, culminating in eleven parks, a sprawling system of 20+ miles of trails, and five greenways. The largest park (164 acres) is Crockett Park, which has seven tennis courts, eight baseball/softball diamonds, eight multipurpose fields, a nature trail, a playground, and an amphitheater that hosts an annual summer concert. You can enjoy every sunny day outside here, whether it’s at one of the many parks or the city’s arboretum.

Brentwood, which is part of Williamson County Schools, has one of the finest public school systems in the nation. The premier website in grading the quality of schools, GreatSchools, evaluated all of Brentwood’s public schools and gave every one of them a 10 out of 10, which is an incredible honor. The city offers education to child through seven public elementary schools, three public middle schools, and two public high schools. Additionally, there are a few private schools, which have certainly earned the same level of respect as their public counterparts.

The Nashville metropolitan area has some of the most delicious restaurants in the state. You won’t find much in Old Hickory, besides Simply Thai, the Black Pearl Restaurant (American), or Pam’s Country Kitchen. However, if you just travel 13 miles southwest, you’ll be able to feast in Nashville’s best eateries. There is the Silly Goose (American), Mas Tacos Por Favor (Mexican), Margot Cafe & Bar (French), Bolton’s Spicy Chicken and Fish (Southern), and Thai Phooket, to name just a handful of options. And they’re all just a short drive away from Old Hickory.

Crime & Safety

Crime & Safety

The crime rate here in Old Hickory is about average when compared to other cities nationally. Of course, there are safer neighborhoods, most of them being on the east side of town. Property crime is a little more common than violent crime here. The chances of being affected by property crime are 17 out of 1,000, whereas for a violent crime, it’s 4 out of 1000. If you find the right neighborhood here, you will find that overall the city is a safe place.

Hermitage is only ten miles east of Nashville. If you want to get there, you can either take the Lebanon Pike or Interstate 40. Traffic is usually backed up during rush hour on both routes, so the drive can sometimes be as long as a half hour, despite the short distance. The majority of Hermitage residents report that their commute time to work is usually anywhere between 15-29 minutes.

Apartment Costs

Apartment Costs

Dustin Jeeper - Real Estate Agent

When you look at rental prices in the area, Hermitage’s prices aren’t low (cheap), or high (expensive) -- they’re right in the middle. The cost of a two bedroom apartment usually hovers around $800, give or take. Areas such as Henderson, Madison, and La Vergne are usually cheaper, and conversely, the neighboring communities of Old Hickory, Mount Juliet, and Nashville are typically more expensive.
