Public transportation is non existent in Northwood. Buses do not run in Northwood. In order to get around you are really going to need a car. If you plan on renting in Northwood without a car, you are going to find survival difficult. You might be able to call a cab(nearest company is probably in Concord), but be prepared to wait.
Crime & Safety

Rochester is an overall safe community. An excellent police force helps keep crime in check. Recently, there have been a string of home burglaries, but according to the local paper(www.fosters.com), the PD has made a few arrests and the burglaries have seemed to stop. With all of this said, there are still a few neighborhoods I would avoid. Without singling any particular street out, avoid neighborhoods within close proximity to the Downtown area.
Renter Friendly

Dover is renter friendly by my standards. There are typically plenty of rentals available on any given day and in my years helping renters, I have never heard "there are just not enough rentals to go around." With that said, you will still need to spend time looking and plan your rental search accordingly.
Apartment Costs

Rents in Rochester are very affordable, to the point where some might consider them on the "cheaper" end of the scale. Compared with surrounding communities(Dover, for instance), Rochester rents fall below average. While rents might be cheap, Rochester is a community rich in amenities and a great place to raise a family.
