It educates and informs, it is a very powerful and moving collection.

MIT has a subsidy program which MIT subsidizes the purchase of a monthly pass from the MBTA for students and faculty. A Charlie Card (A reusable transportation pass) will be issued to the people that qualify (students who have a bursar account and do not have a parking permit, staff that also don’t have a parking permit). Traffic can tend to be congested depending on where you’re coming from. If you’re coming from New York City traffic can tend to be a nightmare, your best bet would be to take the MidTown direct train that takes you between Montclair Heights and Penn Station in NYC. If you live in Montclair proper, you can go North on Valley Road, 3.3 miles to Normal Avenue, turn left. The main entrance to the campus will be on your right side. If you’re heading West to campus, take Route 46. Take the exit for Valley Road Montclair/Paterson. Make a right at the end of exit ramp to get onto Valley Road heading south. Make a right turn at the first light to Normal Ave. You’ll see the campus on the right.

A lot of younger residents of Montclair, New Jersey tend to hop a train and make the 45 minute commute to NYC for a night on the town, but if you want to stay in town there are plenty of bars, clubs and dining establishments to suit your fancy. If you’re into the swinging sounds of jazz, Trumpets Jazz Club at 6 Depot Square is a hot place to be. Friday and Saturday from 5:30pm to 1:00am you get to hear some fine tunes from local musicians. Be careful you don’t melt! Pasadena, California is a city where the average high temperature in January is 68 degrees and the average high temperature in July is 89. Winters are usually warm and wet, rains filter through around February and cool down the night air. Spring is very warm and Summer is practically unbearable. However, if you’re a native, you might be able to manage. Pasadena overages only 21 inches of precipitation a year which is lower than the national average of 37 inches. Even in such a warm climate, Pasadena’s location to the San Gabriel Mountains can lead to snowfall. Most recently 1 inch of snow fell in February of 2011.

The Staten Island Ferry is free, runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to and from Manhattan. The Ferry departs from Staten Island’s St. George Terminal to Manhattan’s Whitehall Terminal. The Subway in Manhattan (Lines 4,5,R and 1) run to the Whitehall Ferry Terminal. Subway fares are $2.25. The college also provides a non-stop shuttle bus from the St. George Ferry Terminal to campus (when the campus is open). This shuttle is free for students with valid student ID. The local bus lines (Lines S62, S92, S61, S93, S53 and the X10) also navigate to the college campus, fare for the bus is also $2.25.

On Staten Island there’s Chinese Scholar’s Garden which is a replica of a typical scholar’s garden from the Ming Dynasty. The Staten Island Zoo is fantastic for kids of all ages and is only 3 miles from campus. The Franklin D. Roosevelt Boardwalk is 5 miles away from campus, a great place to gather your thoughts, study, or just relax you mind. Staten Island has countless museums such as the Staten Island Museum that has the history of the island, particularly artifacts detailing the history of the Staten Island Ferry. Not only does Staten Island have a lot of great things to do, campus is only 15 miles from lower Manhattan where you can enjoy all the benefits of New York City. Boutique shops, restaurants, Battery Park are just a few attractions you can find in lower Manhattan if you’re willing to make the small trip.

Sharing a border with the famous Kansas City, MO there are a plethora of things to do. In 2012 Legoland was opened at the Crown Center in Kansas City. This is the fourth Legoland in the US. The building has Kansas City city landmarks constructed from Lego bricks, it also features a hands-on area, a 4D theatre and master classes from the Lego Master Model Builder. The Kansas City Zoo is also a very nice attraction for people of all ages. Scheduled to open in late 2013 is the Helzberg Penguin Plaza, featuring a 100,000 gallon pool and a coral reef aquarium filled with cold and warm climate animals. Kansas City also has many racing events at the Kansas Speedway, as well as an NFL team that plays at the new Arrowhead Stadium.

It it is offered on a first come first served basis and each student requesting housing must submit a $150 reservation/damage fee with a filled out contract. For a furnished studio apartment the price comes to $4200 per academic year per person. One bedroom Kansas City, KS off-campus go for an average of $648 according to data in 2012, two bedroom apartments were renting on average of $783 a month. In neighboring city Overland Park, the apartments are actually more expensive than in Kansas City proper. So it might be more cost effective and convenient to stay within city limits.

MTU is a campus tucked away in the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan, one might think that there might not be any special events taking place since it’s so far away from everything. They are very wrong. Every year in February MTU hosts Winter Carnival. This is where student groups get together to compete against one another creating giant (some over 10 feet high) sculptures made entirely out of snow and ice. Winter Carnival holds the “All Nighter” which is when students spend all night finishing their statues - locals and college students alike gather on campus for the all nighter where they serve free Chili and have an outdoor dance floor. Around Houghton, where the campus is located, there are many different events throughout the year. Seafood Fest/Bridge Fest is an event held in June every year to commemorate the building of the Houghton Lift Bridge. They serve seafood, have live music, and have helicopter rides.

Saint Louis is a bustling town filled with a myriad of things to do at night. If you’re into the bar scene, Saint Louis is definitely the place you want to be. If you’re wearing a Cardinals or Rams shirt, you’re going to be in great company. With about 100 students at FDTC using bus service provided by Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority (PDRTA), students can buy an all-you-can-ride semester-long pass for only $85. Most students take the Route 2 bus, which loops from the central transfer station at West Evans and Dargan, and it goes out to Tech and back. However, as of 2012, some of the routes were changed and students attending the Hartsville campus might run into some problems finding a route that works for them

Located in warm Florence, South Carolina Florence-Darlington Technical college is not a terrible place to be. Even in January the average temperature is almost 60 degrees. Over the course of an entire year, Florence, on average, only receives 4 days of snow (only about an inch total per year) and 63% of their days are without any precipitation at all. Humidity levels throughout the day in Florence tend to be high, so make sure you have a brush and hairspray with you. With a such a warm and humid climate there are greater risks of Tornados, in 1995 a category F4 hit 29 miles away from the center of the city causing a great amount of damage. That is something to keep in mind before moving to the area.

The student body at Norwich University isn’t very diversified. 71.2% of students are Caucasian, African Americans are 4.6% of the population at Norwich University, and 4.8% are Hispanic. Northfield alone has a 93.9% Caucasian population, with 1.2% African American and 1.5% Hispanic. Over half of the residents of Northfield have never been married, only 27.7% of residents are currently married.

Norwich University (on campus) has a very high crime rate, with serious problems with sexual assault, aggravated assault and burglaries. On campus there has also been liquor and drug related arrests over the past few years, the statistics of the arrests seem to coincide with the national average. However, off campus the rates are a bit lower. Northfield, Vermont’s crime rate is lower than the Vermont average, and far lower than the national crime rate. Northfield is safer than a little over half of the cities in the United States. Also, in Northfield, the chance of you being a victim of a crime is 1 in 50. It’s not the safest place, but it’s not the worst place either.

Many students tend to like the Palo Alto campus in regards to where to eat because of the variety of places to choose from. Also, location plays a big role - between classes one can venture out to Piazza’s Fine Foods and grab something at the deli. They have a soup and salad bar, and sell pre-packaged entrees, as well as panini’s and ready-to-go sandwiches. Perfect for the busy college student. There is also a coffee shop and chinese restaurant within walking distance from the campus. At the Los Altos campus there is KJ’s Cafe a la Carte Espresso Bar, located in the upper level of the Campus Center East Wing. However, due to the location of the main campus, there are no restaurants within walking distance.

The Foothill College main campus is located off I-280 in Los Altos, and their secondary campus is located in Palo Alto on Middlefield Road between Charleston Rd and San Antonio Rd. because both campuses are commuter campuses, they are serviced by The Valley Transit Authority. The number 40 and 52 bus lines run directly to the main campus in Los Altos. The number 35 bus line takes you directly to Foothill’s Palo Alto campus.
