There are a whopping 20 public elementary schools, eleven public middle schools, and ten public schools in Kissimmee, all of which are run by the School District of Oceola County, Florida. Among these schools are charter academics, alternative schools, technical schools, and online schools, among others. This opens up a variety of options for your child’s education. There are also seven private schools, most of which are connected with a religion, and two post-secondary institutions.

Though Kissimmee may not have the level of nightlife that neighboring Orlando does (which is just a short drive away if you want to experience city life on the weekend), but it has some cool places to spend a night. Vintago Vino is a wine bar that’s frequented by locals, and Fawlty Towers Tavern is a great pub that will make you feel like you’re in England. There are a number of great bars in the area, and lounges, like the Gaslight Lounge. There’s a Regal movie theater in Kissimmee, but if you want a unique theater experience, there’s the Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament. With some local bars and pubs, and Orlando within driving distance, Kissimmee has a good nightlife for a small city.

Sanford’s community, and its rental market, doesn’t discriminate against pets. There are plenty of pet friendly housing available, and if you’re looking for a place, you should start with these complexes: Sailpointe at Lake Monroe, Regatta Shores, Town Centre, Stratford Point, or Westlake. These are just a few, you can see more if you search for pet friendly apartments on this site. Local businesses also cater to pets, such as Paw Park Place, which sells pet necessities, has a pet groomer, three fenced dog parks, and even a doggy bakery. If you rent in Sanford, you and your pet will feel welcome.

Historically, Sanford has always been known for its transportation. It was once known as a major hub in Central Florida because of its position on the St. Johns River. Now, it has its own international airport, which constantly ranks among the top 50 for busiest in the world. It also is the southernmost terminal for Amtrak’s Auto Train, which goes all the way to Virginia. Buses are run by Lynx, which transports residents all over the Orlando-Kissimmee metropolitan area. Sanford is also a stop on the commuter rail system known as Sun Rail, which is currently being constructed and is planned to revolutionize public transit in the area.

If you work in Orlando, your commute from Apopka on the weekdays will take about a half hour. For the weekends, the commute to Daytona Beach and the beautiful Atlantic Ocean is only an hour or so. Of course, there are literally hundreds of lakes in the Orlando area as well if you want to stay local. Most people in Apopka own a vehicle of their own and drive it to work. However, if you want to take public transit, there are bus routes that can take you to Orlando or most neighboring communities.

Apopka is home to one of the best lakes in the Orlando area: Lake Apopka. It’s actually the third largest in the state of Florida at nearly 31,000 acres. There are a number of parks that are near or surround the lake. There are ten parks overall in Apopka, including a dog park for four-legged residents and an athletic complex. The local favorite is Wekiwa Springs State Park, which is a natural preserve with miles of trails and a river for kayaking, canoeing, or swimming. If you place a high priority on enjoying Florida’s sunny weather, Apopka’s recreational system would be perfect for you.

Oviedo has won several awards for its quality of life. It was named one of CNN Money’s 100 Best Places to live a few years ago, in 2009. A couple years later it was featured in Family Circle’s 2011 list of Top Ten Towns for Families. If you’re looking for a safe, family-friendly, and established community in the Orlando metropolitan area, Oviedo would be a great place to look. There aren’t as many vacancies here as in surrounding areas, but if you contact me I’ll try my hardest to find you an apartment that is what you’re looking for.

Local Events

Local Events

There are several events every year that are put on by non-profit organizations and city in the Winter Garden. Uncle Don’s Chili Cook-Off benefits the American Cancer Society and takes place every February. The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra performs at the Evening At the Pops in March, and the Bloom ‘N Grow Garden Society holds the Annual Spring Fever in the Garden in April. Of course, holidays like the fourth of July and Christmas are celebrated too. There are also festivals for art and music in November and October, respectively. If you rent here you will get to experience these fun events, and feel a sense of community in Winter Garden.

Weather

Weather

Debra Thompkins - Real Estate Agent

Winter Garden’s tropical climate is why many residents, especially those who used to live in north of Florida, were lured to the area. But before you fly south to avoid winter, you should know how hot the summers truly are. Mostly every day from May to September is above 90 degrees (F), and is extremely humid (usually above 70%), combining for a heat index over 110 degrees (F). There are thunderstorms most summer days, and lots of rain. If you can weather the summer heat the rest of the year will be pleasant; winter temps stay in the 60s and 70s for the most part. If you do decide to rent here, an air conditioning unit is absolutely necessary.

Winter Springs’ public schools are some of the best that the Orlando metropolitan area has to offer. Overall, the city’s schools have an excellent 8 out of 10 rating on GreatSchools. There are five elementary schools in the area, one middle school, and one high school. If you’re looking for a private education for your child, look into Bridges Academy, another respected institution in Winter Springs.

Crime & Safety

Crime & Safety

It’s pretty “safe” to say that Winter Springs has one of the lowest crime rates in Florida. On a list of the safest U.S. cities compiled by Neighborhood Scout, Winter Springs is ranked #66, and is the only Floridian town or city on the list. If you’re looking for a community with friendly residents, cooperative and efficient law enforcement, and neighborhoods that are fit to raise a family in, Winter Springs is a great place to rent.

Restaurants

Restaurants

Japanese, Thai, Latin American, Mexican, American, Chinese, Caribbean, Italian... these are just a sampling of the flavors Ocoee’s restaurants offers, making it an extremely diverse culinary scene where every resident, regardless of ethnicity or nationality, can find an establishment that will suit their traditions and preferences. Residents can step out of their comfort zone and try a foreign dish at a restaurant with a name they can’t pronounce, or simply eat at a familiar chain like Arby’s or Texas Roadhouse. Ocoee has a lot of choices, but if you’re not satisfied, Orlando is a short drive away.

There are no shortage of nearby lakes for Ocoee residents to enjoy. Lake Apopka, Starke Lake, Lake Olympia, Lake Meadow, and countless others are just minutes away. As for the ocean, it’s just ten minutes from Ocoee. These are excellent places to go when you have free time on the weekend, but what about working during the week? Orlando is accessible via Florida Route 408, and is a short drive (20 minutes or so) away.

The Casselberry rental data shows that it has some of the cheapest apartment prices in the area. If you search for listings in the city on MyApartmentMap, click on rental data and see for yourself. The average rent is $856/month, and while other communities are in the same ballpark, they’re still more expensive (see: Altamonte Springs--$874, Winter Springs--$894, Winter Park--$896, Lake Mary--$936, and so on). One of the best parts about living in Florida is that as the rest of the country has to endure blizzards and freezing temperatures, Casselberry residents get to enjoy the monthly “Art & Music in the Park.” That’s right -- the well-known local event continues into the winter, because with Florida’s weather, why not? Casselberry also encourages the public to enjoy the city’s 17 parks and 122 acres of open space. And within these areas, there are dog parks, trails, lakefront pavilions, sports fields, tennis courts, and even more for the public to enjoy, for free. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Altamonte Springs has a bus system that serves as the public transportation for the area. The buses frequent routes that extend through Altamonte Springs and weave throughout neighboring cities and towns. LYNX is in charge of the service, and charges $2 for a one way adult ticket. The bus stops are marked with a sign that has a lynx paw print on it, you can’t miss them!
