If you live in the Fort Worth area, your dining options are unique because you can step out of your apartment and walk a block to enjoy a local restaurant in the neighborhood, or you could also easily get in your car, drive 30 miles to Dallas, and enjoy a dining experience there. There is a great variety of restaurants in both cities. In Fort Worth alone you can experience an entire palette of local and foreign cuisines without leaving the city. There’s restaurants with food from Korea, Japan, India, southern U.S. (Cajun), Mexico, France, Thailand... the list goes on, but you get the idea. Just as diverse as the food are the prices, as you can enjoy a quality meal here that’s either on the cheap or expensive side.

Theaters, museums, parks, music... Fort Worth’s recreational scene has it all. If you’re looking to spend a day out in the city (which is possible year round in Fort Worth’s climate), try any of these museums: the Kimbell Art Museum, whose architecture is art in itself, the Texas Cowboy Hall Of Fame, or the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. For theater performances, check out the Bass Performance Hall or the beautiful Casa Mañana. For outside destinations, you can’t go wrong with the Fort Worth Zoo, especially if you have a family, as it has been cited by Family Life Magazine and USA Today as one of the best zoos in the country. There are a number of gems in Fort Worth’s great recreational system, such as the Fort Worth Botanic Garden, the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge, and over 200 other parks.

One of the great things about Fort Worth is its proximity to Dallas, as the two cities are just 35 miles apart. This means that whether you have a job there, a band you love is playing a show there, it’s where your friends or family live, or for any other reason, you have easy access to one of America’s largest cities. But that doesn’t mean that there’s not a lot to enjoy in Fort Worth, and of course the commute will be shorter if you have a job here instead of Dallas. The average commuting time for residents here is 28 minutes, and 93% of them drive a vehicle to work.

Crime here is less common than in other cities around the country. The violent crime rate for Burleson was 56% less than the national average, which is a testament to its safeness. The city’s violent crime rate was also 61% lower than the Texas average, and its property crime rate was 23% lower than the state average. If you live here you will see that Burleson is a friendly and safe community.

There are currently 16 parks in Burleson, and four more will be open in the near future. All of the park space combined totals a staggering 348 acres for the public to enjoy. There are two large sports complexes in the city as well. Burleson is also home to Bailey Lake, and the Hidden Creek Parkway is located next to it. The park has a fishing dock, picnic areas, and nature trails. The city also hosts a free concert series every summer, and offers programs and sports clubs to ensure that you will never be bored here.

Most kids in Haltom City go to schools in the Birdville Independent School District, although some students go to the Fort Worth Independent School District and Keller Independent School District. As for the public schools here, there are seven elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school. In 2011, Haltom City asked Tarrant County College to add a campus in town so working class families who didn’t have the means of transportation to travel to a college could still take classes. As a response they created an extension of their Northeast Campus for Haltom City.

The average commuting time for Hurst residents (one way trip to work) is 28 minutes, which is two minutes longer than both the national and state average. This figure makes sense, as Fort Worth is 21 minutes away (by Texas Route 121) from Hurst, and Dallas is 38 minutes away (via Texas Route 183), so 28 minutes is somewhat in the middle. 92% of residents here drive a vehicle to work, and only .3% take public transportation.

Hurt has practically every type of restaurant that a foodie could want. There’s Italian (Italiannis Restaurant), Vietnamese (Miss Saigon Cafe), Cajun (Two Sister’s Restaurant), Greek (Cafe Medi), Sushi (Zena Sushi), Thai (Sweet Basil Thai Cuisine), Mexican (Rosa’s Cafe), Indian (Mom’s Spice), American (Burger Street)... the list goes on. If you think I missed a type of food, visit Hurst and you could probably find a restaurant that serves it.

Renter Friendly

Renter Friendly

Arlington has a very high number of renters in the city: 40% of properties here are renter occupied units. This is 10% higher than the national and state averages. This is partly because there are college students in the area, but also because residents are realizing the benefits of renting. There are thousands of apartments here -- pet friendly places, one/two/three bedrooms, section 8 -- that will suit whatever you desire, and they make the city very renter friendly.

Recreation

Recreation

There are countless activities and places to enjoy yourself here in Arlington. The city is home to the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers’ stadiums, so during NFL seasons you can go to 8 games, and for MLB seasons, 81 games (unless they make it to the playoffs, which they usually do!). Or, you can watch the game or just enjoy a drink at one of Arlington’s many excellent pubs and bars. If you want to experience live music, check out Louie Louie’s Dueling Piano Bar, or the Levitt Pavillion, which has free spring and summer concert series. Fun fact: the original Six Flags theme park is located in Arlington.

Public Transportation

Public Transportation

Because North Richland Hills is located near both Fort Worth and Dallas, they are serviced by transportation services in both cities. The Fort Worth Transportation Authority coordinates van pooling with residents who want to share a vehicle, and provides bus services. Dallas Area Rapid Transit runs the Trinity Railway, which has a stop just south of Richland Hills, and can take residents to Fort Worth or Dallas. They also are in charge of the DART commuter rail and their own bus services to and from the city.

North Richland Hills (NRH) is a safe community with relatively low crime. Compared with the national average, NRH has a slightly (1.5%) higher property crime rate than average. However, NRH’s property rate is much lower (23%) than Texas’s average because there is a lot of property crime in the state. As for violent crimes, they are far less common. The violent crime rate here in NRH is lower than the national crime rate by by 37%, and lower than the state rate by 45%.
