Washington DC ranks among the top U.S. cities for public transportation, in terms of both popularity and quality. The U Street Corridor benefits from the Washington Metro’s sprawling service with its own station, U Street, which is part of both the Green and Yellow lines. The Shaw and Dupont Circle stations are also nearby and provide access to other lines. Another option for public transit is bus service, which serves the U Street Corridor as well. The two most popular of these routes are S4 and S2, both of which travel to the nearby downtown area.

The U Street Corridor used to be a neighborhood with high crime, and in the 1970s dealt with drug trafficking problems. But in the following decades, there was a revitalization within the community, especially in the Adams Morgan and Logan Circle areas. Gradually it once again became one of D.C.’s most desirable neighborhoods to live in. A testament to this is the rental boom that occurred recently: there were over 2,000 luxury apartment and condos built here in the ‘90s and ‘00s. Ever since, the community has thrived. In 2011, it was recognized by the American Planning Association as one of the “Great Places in America.”
