Bus coverage in Mount Pleasant doesn’t just serve two of the major streets in the neighborhood (16th Street W and 14th Street NW), but also many of the smaller residential streets too. In fact, no matter where you live, there’s more than likely going to be a bus stop within walking distance of your new digs. This is helpful considering that the downtown area of the city is a few miles away. There is also a subway station in the neighborhood--the Columbia Heights stop. Both the Green and Yellow lines run through here, and many local commuters use the rail lines to get to work every day.

Who ever said that all the best things to do in Washington were located Downtown? Even though that part of town has sites like the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial, Mount Pleasant has great sites of its own. The most notable is the Smithsonian National Zoological Park, which is located on the western border of the neighborhood. This sprawling campus has an enrichment lab, a discovery center, education building, and plenty of animal exhibits including specific exhibits for apes, birds, and rainforest wildlife. For other places to go in the neighborhood, there’s the Powell Recreational Center, Wonderland Ballroom, and a nice selection of restaurants and bars.
