Public Transportation
Local Guide - Real Estate Agent
The most popular public transportation method in Ledroit Park is the subway, especially in the neighborhood’s Shaw-Howard University station. Washington Metro’s Green and Yellow lines both run through this stop, which can take residents to different regions of the city. These two lines also run through the U Street station, which is a short walking distance from the Shaw-Howard stop. Other options besides the subway are bus routes, like number 80 for example, which run through the neighborhood. Then again, walking is also an option. Downtown DC is too far away (three miles), but if you’re a student at Howard University or work in any of the surrounding neighborhoods, you could easily walk.
Demographics
Local Guide - Real Estate Agent
Ledroit Park, located near the center of Washington DC, is a neighborhood that originated as a Whites only community, but over time this barriers was broken down. The largest reason for this is the nearby location of Howard University, which is a historically black school. Now, in the 21st century, Ledroit Park is very diverse. And it’s not just large populations of Blacks and Whites either; residents here span dozens of countries, and the diversity this community offers is a huge selling point for some.
