The community is collectively anticipating 2016, when the brand new “University Link” will begin serving the area. This line will be part of Seattle’s Link Light Rail, and will take residents around the city to areas like the Capitol Hill, the airport, downtown, and Rainier Valley. The service will definitely help form a public transportation identity for the community. Smart renters are already scouting for apartments near the station’s planned location so they will have great access once the rail is in service. For now, residents will continue to rely on bus routes that stop in the area.

As you can tell from the name of the neighborhood, this area has a large population of college students. The community is home to the main campus of the University of Washington, which has 30,000 students enrolled. If you live here you will notice the youth in the area, and if you’re the type to stay in and relax on the weekend, you may want to avoid certain areas. For example, 17th Avenue (near NE 45th and 50th streets) is home to the university’s fraternity and sorority housing. On the weekend the parties there are known to be rowdy, and often are taken outside to the streets. I would recommend staying away from these areas, and renting in the neighborhood’s quieter areas instead.
