Public Transportation

It’s incredibly easy to find ways to get around via public transportation in Mission, and it’s incredibly hard to miss the bus. There are ten of them that serve the neighborhood, and they’re constantly weaving through the streets, picking up residents and dropping them off in other parts of San Francisco. These routes are operated by Muni, which also runs a streetcar through the area. You may recognize the streetcar from the city’s postcards, but they also serve as a valuable facet in the city’s public transit system. There are two BART rail stations in the neighborhood too, and I would say that this is the most popular mode of transportation amongst people who live in Mission.

Local Events

Mission is a very spirited neighborhood, and the people there like to celebrate the community’s history, diversity, and livelihood as often as they can. There are around 15 special events that are held here every year, by my count, and I’m not even including holidays. These events span everything from street fairs (the 24th Street Fair in March, Carnaval in May, Rock Make Street Festival in September, etc.) to historical events (the Cesar Chavez Holiday Parade in April, the Remembering 1906 ceremony), to events that are completely unique (Hunky Jesus Contest on Easter, LitCrawl in October, and the Open Studios exhibit in October). There aren’t many neighborhoods, if any, that hold as many events as Mission, and the community is more close-knit because of it.
