Crime & Safety

Haight Ashbury is still the safe neighborhood that thrived during the “Summer of Love” in the 1960s. The times are different, but the community’s friendly and youthful atmosphere is the same. I wouldn’t worry about crime here, and there are very few “problem areas,” as I call them, in the Haight. The only issue is its proximity to the Golden Gate Park, which can be dangerous at night. Aside from that, the surrounding neighborhoods aren’t anything to worry about.
Apartment Costs
MyApartmentMap Neighborhood Expert - Property Manager
Rental rates in San Francisco are, on average, significantly higher than most U.S. cities. This isn’t any different in Haight Ashbury, where it’s difficult to find a rent that’s less than $2000. The lone exception is a studio apartment, but these properties are usually cramped and, in my opinion, still overpriced. So if you want a one/two/three bedroom place, you’re going to have to be aware of the large price tags, and will probably have to share the apartment with one or two friends. But don’t get me wrong, this is one of San Francisco’s best communities to live in and is worth the hefty prices.
