Commuting to and from Old Town is very convenient. The neighborhood is bordered on two sides by major highways, and provides public transportation by rail and road. The northern border of Old Town is Interstate 8, a 350 mile east-west roadway spanning much of California as well as Arizona. The western border is Interstate 5, an 800 mile north-south highway, beginning at the Mexican border and continuing into Oregon. For daily commuters or those not driving, the Old Town Transit Center provides rail service on the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner route, San Diego Coaster commuter rail, on the San Diego Trolley Light Rail’s Green Line, as well as service on ten bus routes operated by San Diego Transit daily.

There is no abundance of nightlife hotspots in Old Town, but there is plenty to ensure a good time without leaving the neighborhood. Kelly’s Pub and Old Town Saloon are the two spots in town with full bars, each having pool tables, darts and juke boxes; the local dive type and maybe most popular. Churchill Cigar Lounge and The Wine Cabana are both beer and wine only establishments. Churchill sells and allows cigars, while Cabana is a bit more upscale and romantic. There are four Mexican restaurants in town that remain open later (11pm) on the weekends, and tend to cater to drinkers only toward the end of the night, along with one American style of the same condition, O’Hungry’s. Tara Niche is an art gallery in Old Town that sometimes has live bands play, but does not offer a bar. Many neighboring communities offer other late night enjoyment.
