Most of the San Diego neighborhood crime lists that I’ve seen have the Mission Hills/Mission Valley area as one of the top ten safest in the city. Some of the nearby areas like Serra Mesa and Friars Road/Fashion Valley Road are considered unsafe, so make sure you know where they are and steer clear of them. But if you’re looking to live in the Mission areas, you’ll be glad to know that the communities take safety very seriously. I’ve even heard of neighborhood watch groups forming when there are a string of crimes, and their preventative measures have helped construct a real feeling of safety.

When San Diegans are poring through the city’s activities, trying to figure out something to do with their families, they’re most likely going to head to Mission Valley. The city’s NFL team, the Chargers, play in Mission Valley at Qualcomm Stadium, which is also where the San Diego State University Aztecs play. The world renowned SeaWorld is located in Mission Valley, as is the locally known Mission Bay. Three of San Diego’s most popular malls -- Fashion Valley Mall, Hazard Center Mall, and Westfield Mission Valley -- are in Mission Valley if you have the knack to shop. If you’re more into history, there are a range of historic places here, such as Presidio Park and the Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. Whatever your interest is, you’ll find yourself busy on the weekends in this neighborhood.
