If you work in downtown San Diego, go to school at the nearby, or want to visit a friend or family member in a nearby neighborhood, you can easily walk from your rental in Cortez Hill. The neighborhood is just half a mile from both downtown and the college, and I know a lot of residents who walk or bike every day. With the city’s mild winters, this is a realistic everyday commuting option. However, if you want to take public transportation, there are bus stops on every block in the neighborhood. There are also two trolley stops -- one near the college, and another on nearby Market Street.

Cortez Hill’s average price tag for a two bedroom apartment goes for around $2500, more or less. For someone who isn’t acquainted with San Diego’s housing market this can sound ludicrous, but it’s important to weigh it against the costs in surrounding areas. For the same sized space (two bedrooms), the Marina costs $3399, the Gaslamp Quarter costs $2860, and the East Village costs $2727. These are all more expensive than Cortez Hill; when you look at it this way, the Hill’s price tag begins to look reasonable. Little Italy ($2479) is practically the same, and Core is slightly less ($2004). Either way, if you’re looking for a two bedroom apartment in San Diego it will probably be for more than $2000, and a one bedroom can be between $1400 and $2000, depending.
