The Fan area of Richmond is home to around 90 restaurants, many locally owned and unique to the neighborhood. As the fan is a mostly residential area and close to the University of Richmond, many are casual and somewhat eclectic. The most upscale option is Acacia Midtown, good for a date or special occasion, serving American fare for around $20 an entree. Mama Zu is another charming eatery, with lower costs, serving Italian food along with beer and wine. Pescado China Street is also on the cheaper side of things, and a must-visit in The Fan. It offers a mix of Mexican, Caribbean, and Creole seafood dishes, providing some uncommon options. The Black Sheep is a popular American style eatery, which was featured on the Travel Channel’s Best Sandwich in America for their two-foot “battleship” subs. There are many other great options in the fan, all with various alcohol policies; these are great places to start.
Apartment Costs
MyApartmentMap Neighborhood Expert - Property Manager
When compared to seven other neighborhoods in Richmond, The Fan proved to be among the top two most expensive, with prices around $300 higher for a two-bedroom apartment than multiple neighborhoods, such as Hollywood Cemetery and Byrd Park. An average studio apartment in The Fan rents for around $725 monthly. One bedroom apartments rent for around $825 monthly, two-bedrooms for $1,125, and three-bedrooms for upwards of $1,900. The Fan is a very convenient neighborhood concerning proximity to local businesses and Virginia Commonwealth University, which accounts for the higher costs, and may cut other (travel) costs, making it worth the increase in rent.
