Renter Friendly
MyApartmentMap Guide - Real Estate Agent
Anyone familiar with Portland can attest that the West End is one of the most desirable communities in the city. And even better news: it’s extremely renter friendly. The majority of properties here are occupied by renters in high-rises or apartment buildings. It generally is more expensive than the rest of the neighborhoods in the city, but I don’t think the costs are too ludicrous, especially when you look at the rent in other cities. Another cool aspect of the community: 70% of the buildings here were built before 1939, and the neighborhood has some of the best-maintained Victorian architecture in the U.S.
Traffic & Commuting
MyApartmentMap Guide - Real Estate Agent
One out of every five people in the neighborhood (19%) walk to work every day--one of the highest rates in the U.S. It’s even more surprising that there’s such a high rate in a city that experiences winters as cold as Portland’s. Additionally, the rate of people who ride their bikes to work every day is actually 95% higher than the national average. And if you live in the West End you won’t have to worry about commuting times: the majority of residents have a commute that is 15 minutes or less. This can be attributed to the fact that downtown Portland is about a mile from the West End, more or less.
