Public Transportation
Local Guide - Real Estate Agent
Old Town Chinatown is fortunate to serve as a home to the city’s Union Station, which is a hub for three Amtrak trains (Cascades, Coast Starlight, and Empire Builder). It also provides access to two of the city’s TriMet buses (9 and 77), and to two of the MAX Light Rail’s services (Green and Yellow lines). For traveling further distances, there are also Greyhound Buses that run out of the station. Elsewhere, the light rail also stops at three other locations in the neighborhood, and the Portland Transit Mall, which is a series of one way streets for buses and light rail, starts in Old Town.
Apartment Costs
Local Guide - Real Estate Agent
The Old Town Chinatown neighborhood has a perfect location nestled next to the Willamette River, and just half a mile from the downtown area. But with every great location comes high costs. This is especially true if you are looking through the rentals that are right on the water. Riverfront apartments can cost thousands of a dollars a month. In fact, I have a listing in front of me that is going for $3,000 a month. This is definitely more extreme than the norm, but it shows that if you want a riverfront property you’re going to have to fork over some serious cash. Other parts of the neighborhood are much cheaper, and you can find easily an apartment in the high hundreds of low thousands (depending on what you’re looking for), so don’t be scared off by the waterfront costs.
