Their 42-story Cathedral of Learning is arguably the neighborhood’s most ubiquitous landmark, and is one of the tallest academic buildings in the world. Carnegie Mellon University, a school that is ranked among the finest private schools in the country, and the world for that matter, is also located in Oakland and nearby Squirrel Hill. When you factor in Carlow University as well, Oakland leads the city in the number of students and educated residents.
