Public Transportation
MyApartmentMap Guide - Real Estate Agent
Mount Airy is typically a 20-25 minute drive from the city’s center, but any local knows that this isn’t realistic when you get stuck in the congested traffic during rush hour. The Chestnut Hill commuter rail lines (East and West) stop at three stations in the area. This gives the neighborhood six total stops where residents can hop onto the train that they need. There are also bus routes that connect Mount Airy to the rest of the city; at my last count there were five of them. All of these services, like most of the public transportation in Philadelphia, are operated by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority.

The year 2011 was a special one for the Mount Airy community: it marked a cultural revival for the neighborhood, which was even recognized in an article by the New York Times. The publication cited the arrival of new businesses in Mount Airy, which boosted the local economy but also provided residents with places they could go to hang out, meet up with friends, or best of all, blow their weekly paycheck. There are many locally owned shops, retail stores, galleries, farmer’s markets, and more that sit on Germantown Avenue, which is the community’s shopping district. Many of these businesses that are opening shop in the neighborhood have received assistance from Mount Airy USA, an excellent non-profit that promotes local prosperity in the area by helping out companies financially.
