Traffic & Commuting
Jenna Christy - Real Estate Broker
The Seventh Ward lies two miles away from many popular neighborhoods -- two miles north of downtown New Orleans and the Mississippi River (which is its southeastern border), two miles south of the Botanical Garden and City Park, and two miles east of Mid-City. You can get to downtown by taking St. Bernard Ave and North Rampart Street, to the Garden by taking Esplanade Ave, and Mid-City through North Broad Street. Also, Interstate 10 runs through the Seventh Ward, which is perfect for commuters who live in the area and need access to major roads.
Demographics
Jenna Christy - Real Estate Broker
Out of the city’s 17 wards, which are the communities in New Orleans, the seventh is the second largest. And, along with wards 4-9, it’s considered a downtown ward. It is bordered by the Mississippi River on one side and Lake Pontchartrain on the other. So, as you can imagine, with two bodies of water next to the ward, Hurricane Katrina devastated the neighborhood back in 2005. It ruined homes and displaced families, and it took time for everyone to recover. But eventually, residents returned, and the area is being rebuilt into the community it used to be.
