Section 8 & Affordable
Rental Locator - Real Estate Agent
Section 8 housing was hard to come by after the housing collapse and subsequent Recession in 2008 because everyone was applying for it. However, it’s becoming easier to find Section 8 housing now, especially in Little Haiti. This neighborhood has made a concerted effort to provide affordable housing for its residents, which meant opening up more Section 8 properties and making sure that apartment costs stay low. Even if you don’t qualify for Section 8 or can’t find a listing you like, the normal prices for housing here are very reasonable. You should be able to find a deal in the mid-to-high hundreds (per month) if you look at the right time.
Demographics
Rental Locator - Real Estate Agent
Like Little Havana, another one of Miami’s culturally inspired neighborhoods, Little Haiti’s residents are very proud of their heritage and aren’t afraid to show it. However, the neighborhood has almost half as many people as Little Havana (there are around 30,000 residents in “La Petite Haiti”) and is being gentrified, which has displaced some of the local Haitians. The cause of this is the growth of surrounding neighborhoods and Lemon City attracting many businesses to the area. Despite this, the neighborhood is intent on keeping its culture alive, and is still one of the most authentic and tradition-centered communities in the city today.
