Public Transportation
Local Guide - Real Estate Agent
There are two main public transit options in the West Side of Jersey City. Both the A&C Bus Corporation and New Jersey Transit provide bus service to the community, and most of the major streets in the neighborhood are lined with stops. Lots of locals take these buses to work every day; they run often, and are reliable with their times. The other public transportation option here is the Hudson Bergen Light Rail, which has a terminus station located on West Side Avenue. Bus 80 also serves the station, so if you live within walking distance of it you’ll have both transit options available close to you. I should also mention that the West Side is a mile or so away from the Journal Square station, which can take Jersey City residents to New York City via rail.
Recreation
Local Guide - Real Estate Agent
The West Side neighborhood is, sensibly, located around West Side Avenue, which is important to know because it’s one of the largest shopping areas in the city. The West Side, like Bayfront, is a planned community, meaning that since its inception there were urban engineers with long term goals and development ideas for the neighborhood. The plans for the West Side involve more retail and shopping opportunities which, combined with West Side Ave, will make this neighborhood a huge shopping district. Also, there are going to be increased recreational opportunities. Lincoln Park, or West Side Park as it used to be known, is nearly 300 acres of public open space, and features a RiverWalk as well as facilities for biking, sports, running, etc.
