The Heights is a fantastic location for car-less commuters. The best feature about the area’s public transit system is that the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail has a stop in the neighborhood. This service can take residents around Jersey City and nearby places like Union City and Hoboken. There are also numerous bus routes that travel throughout the community; at the moment there are ten of them. I would recommend looking at a map of bus lines in the area and choosing your location around them if you don’t have a car. Or, look for a rental near the light rail stop.

Most of the pet friendly properties in The Heights aren’t in complexes -- the Cliffs Lofts is one of few that I know of and they only allow cats. But if you want to live with a pet you should look for listings like duplexes, single-unit apartments, single-family homes, etc. The only problem is that there aren’t a lot of rentals that allow large dogs. Landlords will usually negotiate what constitutes a “large” dog, and I’ve had clients who have persuaded property managers to let them live with their pup.
