Many Jersey City residents commute to work via public transportation because of how close New York City is. The Hudson-Bergen commuter rail service has two stops in Greenville: Richard St and Danforth Ave, and its West Side branch also serves the neighborhood. Four of the major streets in the community also have bus routes that connect them to other parts of the city like Journal Square or Exchange Place, for example. The PATH station that provides routes to NYC is just three miles from Greenville, which is a short and easy drive. If you don’t have a car, there is a bus route that can take you to the station.

Greenville is one of the Jersey City neighborhoods that people think of as a problem area. It often has a higher crime rate than any other community in the city--it got so bad in the mid-00s that there were curfews enforced on certain streets. In the past, the neighborhood has struggled with drug and gang issues, to be specific. Despite the crime, high housing prices in surrounding NJ/NY areas forced people to move here. Ever since, the neighborhood has been undergoing a revitalization of gentrification of sorts. However, crime is still very much a problem, especially on Ocean Avenue, Bidwell Avenue, and Martin Luther King Jr Drive, to name a few.
