Public Transportation

MyApartmentMap Guide - Real Estate Agent

A lot of Jersey City residents have jobs in New York City, but choose to live here because the housing costs are far more reasonable, and the commute really isn’t too difficult. Downtown Manhattan is just three or four miles away from Jersey City’s Downtown, and the two areas are connected by the Lincoln Highway (Interstate 78). However, many residents choose to use public transit instead. PATH provides rail service to Downtown Jersey City with its red and orange commuter train lines. The red line takes commuters to the heart of Downtown Manhattan, and the orange line further north near Greenwich Village.

Some people think of Jersey City as a bedroom community for people who work in New York City, but I don’t think that’s fair to say. The commute is quick and easy, and there are a lot of residents who work in the Big Apple, but Jersey City has its own unique style and flair that attract people here. You will see this firsthand if you walk through the Waterfront area, or Historic Downtown. I would say that Downtown is the best neighborhood to live in, although to be specific there are multiple districts within the community. There’s the Village, Boyle Plaza, the Hamilton and Van Vorst Parks, and so on. All of these areas are renter friendly, and there are listings you can look at on this site for each one.
