Sherman Hill, or “Historic Sherman Hill” as you may hear it pitched to you by local real estate agents, is the city’s oldest neighborhood. This is apparent in the amazing architecture, historical sites, and overall atmosphere. Unlike many older neighborhoods, Sherman Hill has continued to thrive as decades pass, experiencing renaissance after renaissance. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, because after all, it has a convenient location near downtown, it has low crime, and the charming architecture of the older homes in the area is a huge draw. I would consider Sherman Hill one of the most renter friendly communities in town, and will be even more so as the area is redeveloped and restored.

Sherman Hill is about a mile and a half from what’s considered the downtown area (Grand Avenue and Locust Street), which is a five minute drive or, if you’re more active, a 20 minute walk. This route is very walkable, and it’s not unrealistic for this to be your commute to work during the warmer months. If you need to get anywhere besides downtown, the Sherman Hill neighborhood has direct access to Interstate 235 as well as the Martin Luther King Jr Parkway. The most popular mode of transportation is driving, by far, because there aren’t many public transportation options for residents.
