Rogers Park’s identity is largely defined by the public transportation options it offers to its inhabitants. One of the “L” trains that run through Rogers Park is the northernmost service provided by the CTA (the city’s public transit company), and is part of the red line. There are also three other “L” red line stops in the neighborhood, and the yellow and purple rail lines begin in Rogers Park. Local train operator Metra runs through the Rogers Park Station, which is located right in the middle of the neighborhood. There are also non-rail options in the form of seven local buses.

It’s safer in Rogers Park now than it ever has been, or at least as far back as I can remember. Overall crime has fallen 40% since 1996, and parts of the neighborhood that used to be known as high-crime areas have dramatically improved. In fact, in 2009, Rogers Park had the third lowest crime out of any Chicago neighborhood. It ranked among other safe communities like Near North Side, Uptown, and Logan Square. Rogers Park is a huge neighborhood, probably one of the largest in the region, so the fact that it has one of the lowest crime rates in the city is a testament to how safe it is here.
