If President Barack Obama thinks this area is safe enough to raise his family in, then why shouldn’t you? Obama used to own a house here before he moved his family to Kenwood; there’s even a rock monument that marks the place where he and his wife Michelle kissed for the first time. Fun trivia aside, this neighborhood is very safe, especially the areas of Midway Plaisance/Dorchester Avenue and Greenwood Ave/55th Street. Harper Ave/53rd Street is probably the least safest part of the community, but overall the neighborhood has more safe blocks than dangerous ones.

Both the low and high ends of the rental price spectrum are represented in Hyde Park. If you browse the listings you can get a glimpse of studio apartments that are in the $600-$700 range, and then three or four bedroom apartments that are over $2000. It really depends on what amenities you want--one bedroom, two? Stairs or elevator? Fireplace? One bath or two? Many renters have a list of qualifications, and while Hyde Park doesn’t necessarily have enough selection to be very selective, the desired characteristics of your rental will determine which price range you’ll be looking in, and compromises will lower the price.
