Public Transportation

Public Transportation

Gail McFaster - Real Estate Agent

Boston ranks among places such as New York and San Francisco on the list of U.S. cities with the highest public transit ridership. One in three Boston residents (32%) take public transit to work, and another 15% take a mode of transportation that isn’t driving, such as biking or walking. There are so many ways to get around the city. Primarily, the T (subway) is operated by the MBTA, and services four lines that stretch from downtown Boston all the way out to neighboring cities that are miles away. The MBTA also provides bus and ferry service for residents. Boston is nicknamed “The Walking City,” and has the highest percentage of pedestrian commuters by foot out of any major U.S. city. It also has a large population of bicycle commuters that was heavily boosted recently with the launch of the public bike sharing service, Hubway.
