Getting around Downtown isn’t easy for someone who’s unfamiliar with the area. Most of the streets are one way, there are lots of bikers and pedestrians that you need to watch out for and give the right of way to, and parking regulations are strictly enforced. Once you’re adjusted and know your way around, you won’t be too intimidated. But if you’re not comfortable driving, as I mentioned it’s a viable option to use a bike to get around or walk. There are also public transportation services, like trains run by Capital Metro and Amtrak, and buses that run through the area.

There’s nothing better on the weekend than enjoying the energy of Downtown Austin. The city has become significantly younger in the past decade, and this has had a noticeable effect on the entire nightlife scene. Hip bars (there are over 100 in the Downtown area altogether) clubs, and music venues have opened up, and local comedy clubs have gained popularity. When you throw in all the events and festivals (like the SXSW music festival or Austin Food & Wine Festival) that are always going on, you have a nightlife scene that’s one of the best in the entire state. If you don’t think it can match up to a city like Houston or Dallas, you clearly haven’t been to Austin on the weekend in awhile.
