Unfortunately, Flint is somewhat notorious as a dangerous place to live. In the past ten years, it has made numerous lists of cities with the highest violent crime rates, and most dangerous cities in the US. In 2010, it was named the most dangerous city in the US by one study, and in 2011, the most violent city in the US by another study. In 2012, Flint ranks second, behind only Camden, New Jersey, in terms of the number of violent crimes per capita. While many efforts have gone to raising money for the police department, it doesn’t seem like these numbers might be changing anytime soon. The motor vehicle theft, arson, and burglary crime rates are also among the highest in the country. When looking for a place to live in Flint, it is imperative to consider the safety of the immediate area. There are many things to do in Flint. The Flint Institute of Arts is a popular museum with children and adults alike, with many special exhibits annually, and special events regularly. Several other museums are nearby, like the Flint Children’s Museum, the Sloan Museum, the Buick Automotive Gallery, and the Whaley House Museum. For some throwback fun, visit the drive-in theater, US 23, where you can relax in your own chairs or car to watch the latest blockbuster. The Flint Farmer’s Market is a great place to pick up local greens, and the Longway Planetarium is a hit with kids.
