I can no longer afford the apartment I am in and I am looking to move in August of this year. My situation: I am a male, 60 in July, unemployed with a 25% permanent partial disability, I am fairly active and need no help but am finding it hard to find a decent job. I am using up my retirement savings to survive and need to find an apartment I can afford that ideally would be rent based on my financial isituation or something similar. Looking for anything simple, I don't need much; possibly a studio or efficiency that is as cheap (under 400 a month by as much as possible) yet decent and safe. I have a small cat and that's about it as all my children are grown and gone. I am not sure where to start so any help would be appreciated.

Have you checked out ParkSide Commons, located at 1901 East Fayette Street Lower Level. Their apartments start at $350 a month. They allow cats. The best part is that they include hot water in the rent. I know that safety was a concern of yours, each apartment has a video monitor so you can see who is at your door.
