Newark, NJ ApartmentsCommunity ForumAre there any safe areas?
Are there any safe areas? I know Newark's reputation for being dangerous but I want to be close to my job at Port Newark-Elizabeth Marine Terminal. I also have kids and don't want to put them in danger. Please help.
Well, Newark as a whole isn't exactly the safest city and it's reputation tends to proceed it. In the past year, Newark has laid off almost 200 police officers and with these layoffs, crime has continued to increase. With all of this said, I would probably not want to raise my kids in Newark, NJ.
I bought a home in Society Hill Newark when I was 26. As a young single female I was concerned about Newark's reputation. I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly my neighbors are and have not had ANY problems here. I feel safe. Society Hill has 24 hour security. The Ironbound section of Newark is also nice. It's full of nice restaurants and culture. The Science High School behind my home is one of the best schools in the state from what I understand. Newark is turning around!! I had an excellent realtor, Jenny Durand, http://www.century21cedarcrest.com/agent-detail..., who can assist you with finding a great place to live in Newark.
