I just got a job in Portsmouth in the downtown area on State Street. The rent prices in Portsmouth are really high! Is Rochester a good place to live? Seems like the apartments are right in my budget. Is the commute bad to Portsmouth?
There are some areas of Rochester that aren't as nice as others, but overall it's a great place to live. To commute you'd have to take the Spaulding Turnpike, which is a direct route from Rochester to Portsmouth, but during rush hour the traffic can be very backed up. Without traffic, it's a half hour commute, but with traffic it can take anywhere from 45-60 minutes. So, it's important to take that into consideration when you think of what times you'll be going to and from work. You should also look at apartments in nearby Dover, which is a very nice area that is constantly growing and is becoming one of the finest towns around.
