Sometimes, a college located in an urban area has higher crime than one in a rural setting. For UW-Milwaukee, this isn’t the case. The most recent annual crime report listed the campus as one of the safest parts of the city, with a very low crime rate. It’s also important to consider the neighborhoods that surround the campus, which also have low crime. Overall, these areas of Murray Hill, Upper East Side, Downer Woods, Cambridge Woods, and Riverwest are the perfect spots for an off-campus student to live. They are safe, within walking distance of campus, and have great student communities.

The University of Wisconsin’s main campus in Madison gets credit for having one of the most lively nightlifes in the country, but its campus in Milwaukee deserves credit as well. Instead of the college town/city atmosphere at UW’s other campuses, students will be part Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s largest city. Milwaukee has a national reputation for high-quality beer (its baseball team is called the Brewers for a reason). Drinks are a bit more expensive than average here, but there are plenty of dive bars and other establishments that are catered towards college students. There are also plenty of music venues; some of them with formal names, and there are others in warehouses. Not to mention, if you get sick of on-campus food, the culinary options here are endless. Milwaukee has so much culture to take in, and plenty of nightlife opportunities for students.
