UW Seattle students should consider investing in a U-Pass. It’s a card that grants students free or discounted access to every form of public transit in Seattle, and any full-time student can apply for it. And when I say every form, I mean virtually anything, from water taxis to streetcars to buses to vanpooling. There are six companies that run public transportation in the city, and this card gives you full-fare coverage on all of them. The school created this pass to help students find an alternative method of transportation, and it’s worked. Many students rely on public transit to get to class now, and every semester more kids are switching from driving and paying obscene gas prices to enjoying free bus or train rides.

UW Seattle is far from downtown but makes up for it with a location that’s stellar in every other respect. It’s right against the Union and Portage Bays, which are fun to walk and hang out near on clear days, and the University District, with its restaurants--most of which are gloriously unhealthy--and student parties and events. There’s always something going on near campus too, as UW does a fantastic job at keeping students entertained. But if they want to head towards the downtown neighborhoods, there’s public transit or Interstate 5 that can easily take them there.
