Bennington is a sleepy little town, and at first glance it may seem like you’ll be bored throughout your college experience here. However, there are a handful of great bars and restaurants in town, and if you have a car you can take advantage of Bennington’s terrific location. Why is it terrific, you ask? Arguably Vermont’s greatest natural treasure, the Green Mountain National Forest, is located on the town’s eastern border. Here you can ski, snowmobile, hike, and go cycling, just to name a few of the numerous activities. If you’re willing to make a longer trip, Bennington is just an hour and a half away from New York’s famous Adirondacks.

If you like snow, you’ll love Bennington. The town is buried with around 65 inches every year, and is often a target for nor’easters and blizzards. Skiers and snowboarders flock to the nearby Green Mountain National Forest and other mountains in the state, children have snowball fights, and cars slow to a crawl on the roads. Some people love it and others hate it, but either way it’s a significant factor to consider when you think about living in Bennington. Aside from the heavy snowfall, winters are frigid and long. However, summer is always perfect with temperatures in the 70s and 80s and abundant recreational opportunities nearby in Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York.
