If you’re looking for late night pizza or a quick bite to eat in between classes, there are restaurants on-campus that specialize in college student-friendly food (think Subway or Domino’s-type places). But for more of a quality, sit-down dining experience, students should head to downtown Salem, which is within walking distance of campus. There are plenty of excellent restaurants here that are sure to impress a date or a group of friends. If you’re willing to make a trip (eight miles from campus), downtown Roanoke has an even deeper selection of restaurants. There are different types of restaurants available to Roanoke College’s students; it just depends on the occasion and how far you’re willing to travel for a delicious meal.

Because Roanoke College’s campus is on the smaller side, most students just walk to and from classes. It also helps that downtown Salem is directly south of the campus, so students can also walk there on the weekends or if they need to do errands during the week. But some errands, like grocery shopping and carrying the bags back, are tougher to do while walking. In these instances, the school provides a bus shuttle that can take students to the local shopping center, or around campus to classes if they need it. This is called the Maroon Express, and exclusively serves the school. City transit options are also available, like the Valley Metro buses that can take you around Salem, and the Smart Way Bus, which will take you to Lynchburg’s Amtrak station.
