Public Transportation

St. Thomas runs a shuttle for students three times during the week to nearby museums, grocery stores, parks, etc., but this isn’t a mode of transportation you can use to commute to and from an off-campus apartment. If you want to use public transit in your everyday commute you will have to rely on Houston’s city buses, which run late into the night but aren’t always the safest option. There is a light rail that runs to downtown, but this is a couple miles from St. Thomas. The best option for off-campus students here is to buy a car.

As the largest city in Texas and the fourth largest in the country, Houston arguably offers more culture than any other Southern city. St. Thomas students are lucky enough to be a ten minute drive and 15 minute bus ride away from downtown. Here there both swanky bars and dive bars, a park for jogging and a recreation and a park for the city’s professional Astros baseball team, and venues for Shakespearean theater as well as venues for hardcore metal rock concerts. It doesn’t matter where you seek your thrills on the weekends, downtown Houston will have a spot for you.
