In Beaumont as a whole, there are 120,000 people, of which 47% are Black, 40% are White, and 3% are Asian. About 13% of the population is Hispanic or Latino. Nearly 40% of the Beaumont population consists of married couples. Almost 20% of families are below the poverty line. The population (of around 120k) has been the same since around 1960, which could be seen as an indicator that many who are from here, choose to leave.

Beaumont is located in one of the rainiest parts of Texas, and it’s very hot and humid. June is the rainiest month. Between May and October, temperatures are frequently in the 90s. Hurricanes hit every-so-often, causing millions of dollars in damage. Most recently Hurricane Ike caused $32 billion of damage to Beaumont, and tornadoes have been known to occasionally strike as well. Every few years, Beaumont may get a little light snow in the winter, though most days are usually in the 50s and 60s. Beaumont is known as one of the most polluted of urban areas in the USA and there has been a lot of controversy about the pollution’s effect on health.
