Information About the Area from our Experts

Public Transportation

Public Transportation

Apartments Near Campus - Property Manager

Most people, around 70% to be exact, in Houston use a car to commute to work every day. This is the primary reason why the city ranks in the top 5 US cities with the worst traffic congestion. Residents have recently seeked alternatives; the most popular other forms of travel are METRO’s buses and light rail lines (which are currently still being constructed and built out further from the city). Biking is also popular in Houston--there’s a even a bike sharing program for the public--and there are more bikers in the city than anywhere else in Texas.

Crime & Safety

Crime & Safety

Apartments Near Campus - Property Manager

When it comes to safety in Houston, usually the neighborhoods west of downtown are safer than east, and downtown itself has spotty crime areas. The safest communities, like Satsuma, Falcon Pass, Clodine, Olcott, and Melendy, are all far from downtown; you could even say some are on the outskirts of the city. This isn’t a coincidence. As you move further away from downtown, what you lose in commuting convenience you gain in safety and lower crime rates. Houston has a negative reputation for its crime, but it really depends on which part of the city you live in.
