University Rentals - Property Manager
Providence College’s campus is the second safest part of Providence--Brown University’s campus is the first--according to Neighborhood Scout. If you live in on campus housing, you shouldn’t have to worry about crime. But once you leave campus, the area becomes significantly more dangerous. West Providence, generally, has higher crime rates than East Providence. Most, if not all, of the neighborhoods I recommend to prospective renters are located on the east side of the city. If you’re looking for a safe neighborhood that’s on the west side so you can stay close to campus, I recommend Olneyville, which is two miles south of Providence College.

Providence isn’t as bitterly cold as the rest of New England because of its close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. However, it’s still far from warm during the winter months. The temperatures are around 30˚F on the typical winter day, and around 75˚ on the average summer day. But there’s more to it than just the temperatures; winters bring Nor’easters and blizzards, and summers are very humid. In fact, the humidity can make the temperatures feel like they’re ten or twenty degrees hotter than they usually are. Rhode Island may be slightly warmer than the rest of the region, but certainly resembles the average New England climate in most respects.
