Ask any UPenn student what the benefits of living in a city area, and they’re sure to mention the public transportation. The Philly campus is well served by a variety of transportation services; trolley lines conveniently stop north and south of the campus, and bus routes circle it, too. Students who live in other areas of Philly can easily take the trolley or buses to class, and there’s also a subway station about a half mile away on 34th Street. For students who live outside of Philly and commute from a suburb, the University City train station is just outside of campus and serves five commuter rail lines.

University City is the neighborhood that UPenn’s campus is in. It’s named after the schools located there, most notably UPenn and Drexler. Because of this, mostly everyone you’ll see in the area are young, and if they’re older they’re probably professors or administrators for one of the schools. This is a perfect neighborhood for UPenn students; there are college-friendly restaurants like Chik-Fil-A, it’s a short walk to class buildings, and there are a lot of deals that landlords offer to students. Students should be able to find an apartment and individually pay $500-750 per month with roommates, which I think is a deal for an area like this.
