Luzerne students looking for nearby housing usually end up settling in Nanticoke, Wilkes-Barre, Scranton, or Kingston. Nanticoke is easily the least expensive of these options, with the average two bedroom rental costing just $600. Wilkes-Barre and Kingston are the two most expensive options, with average costs of $1007 and $1118, respectively. However, the selection in Nanticoke is significantly smaller than these two areas, as well as Scranton. I would recommend checking out rentals in Scranton; the average price is just $827, it’s only a half hour drive away, and there are a lot of apartments to choose from.

Luzerne’s location is ideal for any type of student. Philadelphia and New York City are both just two hours away, and if you’re looking for closer small city thrills, Allentown (one hour away), Scranton (half hour away), and even Wilkes-Barre (ten minutes away) all have bars or music venues or clubs. For students that are looking for the outdoor experience, the Lackawanna State Forest, Bear Creek Preserve, and the Ricketts Glen State Park are all a short drive away. Luzerne doesn’t have as many on campus opportunities as the typical college, but makes up for it with a great location in proximity to other areas.
