OSU is seemingly an hour away from everything. An hour to the west is the Pacific Ocean, an hour north is Salem, an hour south is Eugene, and an hour east is the Santiam State Forest and the Willamette National Forest. But students who are moving off-campus should focus on areas that are less than an hour from campus. The nearby cities of Albany (15 minutes away on US Route 20) and Lebanon (30 minutes away on Route 34) are two great areas for students to rent, but the best is in Corvallis. It’s close, the commute is short--your apartment could even be within walking distance--and you’ll never have to worry about traffic or inclement weather ruining your drive to class.

The Benton County Fairgrounds are a short walk from OSU’s campus, and hold many popular events throughout the year. The most well-known is the annual county fair, and there are also concerts, rodeos, and dog shows. As for on-campus events, the most notable are always sports games, specifically football on Saturdays in the fall. The Beavers are competitive every year, and have always have a huge following. The football homecoming game is always one of the biggest nights of the year. The school also holds other types of events, like the Flat Tail Music Festival, battle of the bands, art festivals, and family weekends.
