Kent is definitely one of the more inexpensive places in the region to have an apartment. Kent’s average rental costs are lower than in all the nearby towns. The average two-bedroom rental in Kent is about $650/month, compared to Stow and Tallmadge, which are $770 and $830, respectively. There are numerous apartment villages to choose from, not all of which are near KSU if you want some peace and quiet from the college crowd. There are more rental properties than owner-owned properties in most neighborhoods.

Kent’s unemployment rate is one of the lowest in all of Ohio. Only 5.5% are unemployed. The outlook for future job growth looks good. There are a healthy mix of job opportunities for all education levels, though the biggest demand is for skilled workers in the manufacturing industry in Kent. Due to the high number of college students in the population, the average income appears pretty low. There are many jobs available on campus and locally in town so most students don’t struggle with finding a job.
