Cleveland has all the transportation you would expect from a large city: rail lines, buses, trolleys, and special accommodations like taxis and paratransit. As a student, you can use this to your advantage when looking for a rental in the city. If you don’t have a car, you can scout apartments that are located within walking distance of bus stops or rail stations, and become a car-less commuter. It will save you a lot of cash (especially with gas prices nowadays) that you can put towards your monthly rent instead, allowing you to afford a better, more expensive apartment. City living is all about public transportation--if you don’t need a car, why have one?

The crime reports for the areas surrounding the CSU’s campus are spotty. Certain Streets like Euclid Ave/36th Street and Chester Ave/40th Street have very low crime, but then just a few blocks away on Superior Ave or Carnegie Ave there are higher rates of crime. In downtown Cleveland, where the school is located, the safety of the area isn’t worth the high prices you will end up paying. If you want to live in a neighborhood with lower crime and lower rent, you should look towards the outskirts of the city or a close suburb.
