Most people think that the number one weekend destination for Purchase students is New York City because it’s just 33 miles away, but in reality nearby White Plains is where most students go when they want to leave campus. It’s a small city with enough bars, clubs, and culture to keep students coming back. Metro North and Bee-line provide buses from SUNY Purchase to White Plains, and there are also school shuttles that run every 45 minutes that can take you there as well.

Right now there aren’t really any vacant apartments in Purchase; the town just doesn’t have a rental market. Students usually head over to neighboring White Plains to look at apartments. The downside is that in White Plains, or practically any nearby area for that matter, the prices are very inflated because of the close proximity to New York City. The average monthly rent for a two bed apartment is $2882 in White Plains. You might be able to find a one bed for around $1400-1750 if you’re lucky, but it’s hard to find a rental for less than that. The cheapest places to rent near SUNY Purchase are Tuckahoe and Elmsford.
