Crime & Safety

Crime & Safety

Leandra Medina - Real Estate Agent

Students feel very safe at NYU. The campus security is very present, as well as helpful and friendly. Despite this, NYU is not crime-free; there are several forcible sex offenses each year on campus, as well as a hundred or so burglaries each year. There are very rarely any arrests on campus, though there are plenty of disciplinary alcohol referrals. In addition, there are a handful of bias-related incidents each year.

If you are a student at NYU, The New School, Parsons, Gramercy, East Village, and Union Square have more space and value for your bucks. Instead of paying tons of money to stay on Campus, there are a lot of places that provide more space and a comfortable living than sharing a dorm room with a roommate.

Demographics

Demographics

Leandra Medina - Real Estate Agent

Between full- and part-time students, undergraduate and graduate, there are over 44,000 that attend NYU. About 40% of students are White, 16% are from out of the country, 15% are Asian, 7% are Hispanic, 5% are Black, and another 15% are Unknown. Slightly more women than men attend, in about a 60/40 ratio. In recent years, NYU has taken steps to try and address the diversity issue, and encourage more African American applicants, specifically.
